J1 Visa

The J-1 visa is a temporary, nonimmigrant visa for individuals that allows them to come to the U.S. to teach, work, intern, train, counsel, and research and stay in the United States for the duration of the visitor exchange program. We are offering a program to offer temporary internships to hospitality workers with either a diploma or experience in the field.

Who is Eligible?

The J-1 program allows individuals to enter the U.S. under the following categories:

J-1 visa internship in the USA

J-1 visa program offers an excellent opportunity for internship in the USA for individuals. The key benefit of paid internships in the USA for foreigners is to gain practical experience that helps them achieve new industry heights at home.

Requirement for Internships

Main Criteria
  • A graduate from an accredited institution at the Associate’s Degree level or higher with at least 12 months of related work experience outside of the United States.
  • A young professional with at least 5 years (60 months) of experience in their field of interest.
Additional Criteria
  • Internships may be 1-12 months in duration.
  • Knowledge of the English language sufficient to participate in the program.
  • Permanent residence in home country, which you do not intend to abandon.
  • Intend to depart the U.S. upon completion of the program. You may establish this by presenting evidence of economic, social and/or family ties in your homeland.
  • Train in the U.S. in a field that would be useful in your homeland, and therefore induce to you to leave the U.S. upon completion of studies.
  • Be committed to training in the U.S. for the duration of the program.
  • Qualify for basic health insurance provided by the sponsor organization for the duration of the program.
  • Be in good health to perform the program outlined.

J-1 Internship Benefits in the USA

J-1 traineeship is a training program that helps foreign professionals gain exposure in American culture and gain a structured training program in the U.S. luxury hospitality industry. There are a number of benefits that can still be gained through the J-1 program; however, those benefits will vary according to the program the foreign national participates in.
  • On-the-job training
  • Trainee can receive financial support from both U.S. and foreign sources
  • No need for the foreign national to work as an employee of a foreign employer
  • Ensures productive employment (to the extent allowed by the training program)
  • Not required to demonstrate that the training is not available in the country of origin (like the H-3 trainee program)
  • Does not require approval of petition by USCIS before the foreign national applies for a visa
  • The foreign national applies directly to the U.S. Consulate for the J-1 visa with the forms we provide
  • Can take advantage of U.S. tax benefits: exempt from FICA contributions, and may benefit from specific tax treaty provisions exempting J-1’s from U.S. taxation altogether for defined periods
  • Dependents of J-1 may be eligible for employment authorization upon entry into the U.S. in J-2 status.

How Do You Apply for a J-1 Visa Application?

To submit your application, ensure that you have read J-1 visa requirements and prepared all required documents:

  • DS-7002 form, Training/Internship Placement Plan (only necessary for exchange visitor trainees or intern visa applicants)

What Qualifications Or Experience Do I Need?

  • Diploma or Degree from a Professional University with one year work experience OR Non-graduate with five years’ work experience, and,

How Long Will The Process Take?

From the time we receive all your Documents, sponsorship application forms & the Fees, to the time you depart to USA it can take anywhere between 6-12 weeks

How many hours of training will I receive per week ? How much is my stipend?

Your average training week will around 20 hours depending on the property; however any additional hours will be compensated as applicable. Contracts vary from property to property but generally remuneration is minimum $10 to $13 per hour depending on your qualifications, experience the Company and its location.

Duration of Stay in the United States with J1 Visa

You are allowed to stay in the United States for around 6 months with this J1 Visa. However, the overall duration of your stay in the country might alter depending on the educational course that you choose for your career.

Extension of J1 Visa

You can apply for the extension of your J1 Visa by requesting an extension of the program you are undertaking.

Family of J1 Visa holder

Spouses and/or children under the age of 21 who wish to accompany or join the principal visa holder in the United States for the duration of his/her stay require derivative J-2 visas.
